So, my attempts to climb Mt Shasta in late spring snow conditions via Avalanche Gulch had me trying to climb it once again for the 4th time.
Sadly, after only hiking to Horse Camp and staying a night camping there, my left knee was painful and that was enough to make me abort. Even if I took some Ibuprofen to manage the pain, starting the big climb up to Helen Lake with that pain was not a good omen.
So, not willing to chance damaging my knee, I made my way back down the mountain and aborted my hike.
Even if the summer approach is a hellscape of loose scree and rocks that would be a horrible slog, I’ll probably do that route in September to get this damn mountain off my list.
Flickr album below with the few photos I managed to take during my aborted climb.
