I had not had the time or motivation to climb up any of the peaks in Mt Diablo State Park recently, so I had been trying to get over to it for months.

I finally decided to use my birthday as an excuse to climb Mt Olympia on the East side and it also would be a good warmup hike for my big trek in July.

Despite being nervous about the big climb up the East Ridge of Mt Olympia, it was a nice climb and I reach the top of Mt Olympia (one of the 5 main peaks of Mt Diablo).

Okay. Goal complete, I might as well go down.

Well.. North Peak was only about a mile over a gentle ridge line from where I was, so I decided to pop over.

Except for the last 100 feet which is a real steep climb up a crumbling road (or what used to be a road), it was another enjoyable hike over.

I could have go over to the Main summit from there, but decided I’d rather get a pizza and go home.

I decided to go down the East side on an unofficial use trail. It was a very well travelledd trail, so wasn’t hard to follow. It was VERY steep, so I’ve only used it to descend. I can’t imagine climbing it (although I passed several people going up).

A nice day hike.
