Goal for the day: Nothing in particular, just try to hike as far as I could.
I crawled out of my tent and had some great light to enjoy over breakfast.
Not sure what the Sunrise would have been like at Benson Lake, but I was happy with where I had camped that night and the morning show presented to me (and only me).
After packing up, I had a brief climb before I descend into Kerrick Canyon. From there, it was about a 3.5 mile stroll down the canyon through meadows and forests. A pleasant hike with a downward slope.
Then it was a rough climb up 700 feet to get over an unnamed pass to get to Thompson Canyon (although I also see it called Stubblefield Canyon on one map).
After getting my feet wet fording a wide creek, I found a camping spot and settled in for the night. If I went any further, it would be a thousand foot climb up to get over to Tilden Canyon. No water over that 6 miles, so no reason to push it.
The good news was I should be able to reach Tilden Lake tomorrow, so I would only be 1 day behind my schedule. I still was a little worried about making it all the way to Sonora Pass with my current food supply.
Goal (easy as it was) achieved!
8 miles
7.5 hours on trail
47 miles total for entire trek
