Mile 1303.9 to 1317.9 – 14 miles total hiked on PCT + 1 mile to get water

Even with the trees in the way, the sunrise was a pretty nice way to wake up.

Cold Spring could’ve been a stopping point for the day before, but I decided not to push for this spring. Overall, I think I made a good choice.

I came across some old mining equipment.

The rich I was reversing started to change in appearance. The varied rock formations was a nice change from the dead forests that I had been walking through.

And I got my first view of Mount Lassen! I wouldn’t be climbing it, but the PCT went right by the east side of it.

Deer!

After crossing over the Humboldt Summit parking area, there seemed to more live trees than dead ones.

It was a nice change.

Some interesting rock formations were scattered about on top of the ridge. Always nice to see a variety of rocks and trees.

After gathering water for the evening, I started thinking seriously about where to camp.

It was easier to choose this one.

Up on the ridge.A cl ear view of the surrounding area. And all in the middle of that Mount Lassen!

No shade, but it was cool and cool. Wind was blowing softly along the ridge. No campsite his perfect.😊

Even if the sun didn’t set or rise directly behind Mount Lassen, there were some nice colors for both.

Only one southbound backpacker seen on trail the whole day. Saw some non -backpackers at Humboldt Summit parking lot.
