Mile 1438.8 to 1454.1 – 15.3 miles total hiked on PCT
The morning was spent mostly going through forests without much view, but at least they weren’t full of burned out trees.
There were quite a few blowdown trees and logs to negotiate. We did this by:
Stepping over the fallen tree.
Climbing over the fallen tree.
Cowboy mounting – Have one leg on the ground, swing the other leg up and over the log like you’re getting onto a horse, pivot your butt (be careful of torn pants), and then swing your other leg over the log.
Crawling under the fallen tree.
Ducking as you walk under the fallen tree. (beware of the tree attacking you as you do this)
Or taking a use/social detour, trail around the fallen tree. People sometimes have made multiple different trails so choose wisely.

Mount Shasta did peek out between the trees every now and then.

Yeah, nice camping spot. But it was too soon stop for the day and not really any shade.

There’s Mount Shasta again… must be getting closer to it. 😀

Not for the first time, I came across some old logging operations.

Okay, now Mount Shasta is just trying to get attention… it’s working. 😀

I came across some bear prints.

I shouldn’t be nervous that they’re headed in the same direction as me and look fresh, should I?

Since I had had two nights in a row without any kind of view, I was determined to find a spot with a view of Mount Shasta. The FarOut app had info on one within my range, so I targeted that one.

Then I came across this area at an intersection of the PCT and a dirt road.

Great view of Mount Shasta and the sunset. I didn’t have any shade, but I could always stay in the shade until the sun was low enough in the west sky, do not bake my brains. 😄

And it was all worth it for the sunset!!
