Mile 1368.8 1379 to – 10.2 miles total hhiked on PCT – Plus 5-7 miles in Old Station and exploring the Subway Cave
So, I did not get attacked, eaten, or killed by the bear the previous night so my PCT trek continues. “..
Tried to get some star pictures with my action camera, but there were too many clouds.

As I headed north towards old station, I came upon a beautiful view of Mount Lassen.
Sadly, there were no safe campsites with that view. 😕
Plus I stopped a little too soon the prior night and didn’t even have a chance to look. Such is life on the trail.

Old Station it’s a very small village on Highway 89 and 44. The kind of village that if you blink as you drive by you’ll miss it.

But it did have some things I needed:
I mailed a resupply package with extra food from Sierra City because didn’t know how the stores in Old Station would be as far as food (and I had sent way too much food to Sierra City 😜).
The stores would probably have Diet Coke, of course. 😄
I could also do my laundry and get a shower. After four days on the trail this was very useful.
Sadly, JJ’s restaurant was closed for remodeling. Since it was the only sit down restaurant in old Station, that really sucked.
There was supposed to be a food truck with good burgers down near one of the resorts, but I ended up wasting about a mile of hiking to get to it only to find out it was closed on Mondays (a sudden change from the info that I had). 😞

There was a lava tube near the PCT that I decided to take a side trip to. it was a short diversion from this trail, and I didn’t have to climb or descend any significant amount.
It’s not something I would’ve gone out of my way to see, but since it was right there, and I had time that afternoon, I decided to take a look.

Despite the disappointment about the restaurant, I did get a dinner (of sorts) at the gas station’s convenience store.
I did check on pricing for hotel rooms, cabins, and what one of the resorts called glam camping (but was really just the sleeping module from a semi truck).
Proud that I had not come to any kind of temptation to take a zero night and return to the trail.
For exactly 1 mile before I found a campsite and threw my tent up.
Wasn’t any view, but it was cheaper than any of the other options.
Free. 🤣
