Mile 981 to 994.6 – 13.6 miles total hiked on PCT

The decision to stop early yesterday would come back to haunt me today.

The sprinkles and light rain from the previous evening was nothing compared to the rain that accompanied me all the way up Jack Main Canyon.

I finally had to take out my rain poncho and give it a trial run in the real world. It seemed to do his job to keep me in my backpack mostly dry because there’s no way you can cover every single piece of me and my backpack. The humidity also seems to get into every crook and cranny.

But overall, I stayed pretty dry and nothing important on or in my backpack got wet.

My goal of making it up to Dorothy Lake, unfortunately was cut short by the rain. I could’ve kept going, but it was getting late and I came across a campsite that would be mostly dry. I just had to position my tent right and made sure that any rain that did come would flow away from the tent.

Although the rain did stop shortly after I got the tent set up (go figure), the rain did return in earnest for a couple hours that evening.

I think stopping when I did was a good idea. I should still be able to make it to Sonora Pass in the next two days.
