Mile 1137.2 to 1150.6 – 13.4 miles total hiked on PCT

The morning started off pretty nice, but then I remembered why I decided to camp where I camped.

It was going to be a long climb up to Granite Chief. Not really a tricky climb but long.

Granite Chief also had a ski lift right on top. As I looked where the ski run went down, I was glad I just had to hike the dirt trails up.

3 years ago when I had came through this area it HAILED on me and I spent a very cold night camping nearby. This time the weather was perfect and I still had plenty of energy to continue hiking north towards Tinker Knob.

The approach to Tinkers Knob looked real straightforward, but it had some seemingly way too long switchbacks that made you wonder about the sanity of the people who made the trail. 😄

I wasn’t gonna try to climb Tinker knob, but I did appreciate the view of it and the surrounding area. Pretty much a 360° view of the area.

I passed up a pretty nice place to camp, but it was too early and I wanted to get closer to Donner Pass.

I made my way around Anderson Peak, an interesting formation that stood in the middle of the Ridgeline.

Once I decided that I should start looking for a campsite, the terrain turned into pretty much rock and grasslands. With a strong wind blowing, I needed some kind of protection and kept my eyes out.

Then I came across a trail made marker for 1150 miles. It seemed a bit strange to be indicating that the 50 mile mark now after all this time and the hundreds of miles.

I took a picture with it anyway. 🤣😀

I eventually found a small groove of trees and a nice campsite in them.

Unfortunately, it seemed like a couple hundred ants wanted to pay me a visit after I set up my tent.

I was ready to pull up my stakes and find a different place to camp before I managed to scare them off by sweeping a lot of dirt in their way, and also laying down some insect spray in a line that would discourage him from coming closer. It was the most insect spray I had used this entire trek on the PCT this year. 🐜🐜🐜🤣

I was glad that it actually worked and I was able to stay there and enjoy the sunset.
